Altavista - LeesvilleTransmission Improvements Project
Appalachian Power representatives plan to upgrade the local power grid in Campbell and Pittsylvania counties. Crews expect construction to begin in late 2026 and for the project to be in service by late 2027.

April 10, 2026: Appalachian Power representatives have submitted the project to the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC) seeking approval for the project. Once the case (Case Number PUR-2026-00012) is accepted for review, you can follow the case and contact the SCC on their website: www.scc.virginia.gov/pages/Case-Information
April 28, 2025: Company representatives have determined a proposed line route, shown above in the interactive map.
January 8, 2025: Appalachian Power invites community members and landowners in the project area to a second in-person open house January 21, 2025 from 5 – 7 p.m. at Altavista Area YMCA – 718 7th Street Altavista, VA 24517.

Crews plan to install steel H-frame and single-pole structures
At select locations, crews may use lattice towers and three-pole steel structures to meet engineering needs. Proposed structures are an average of 30 feet shorter than the existing lattice towers and 20 feet taller than the existing H-frame structures.

Proposed Heights for single-pole Structures:
70 - 115 feet*
Right-of-Way Width: Approximately 100 feet*
