Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO) officials plan to strengthen the electric grid in Harrison and Gregg counties by rebuilding about 22 miles of 138-kilovolt (kV) transmission line.
The proposed improvements help decrease the likelihood and duration of wide, community-sustained outages and modernize the electric system to allow more flexibility to address the area's growing power demand due to economic growth and development.
Summer 2026: Company representatives plan to begin survey activities in preparation for the transmission line rebuild project. These surveys include collecting topographical data such as the location of streams, wetlands and potential habitats for endangered species. Crews also plan to begin boundary surveys, which may require crews to place stakes and ribbon within the company’s easement on your property. Survey work will begin in the coming weeks, depending on weather and other factors.
