Northeast OklahomaTransmission Enhancement Project
Representatives of AEP Oklahoma Transmission Company, Inc. (OK Transco) plan to expand the electric transmission system in northeast Oklahoma as part of a regional reliability effort. Construction begins in summer 2028 and concludes in late 2029.
Southwest Power Pool (SPP) the regional transmisison operator (RTO) who oversees and monitors the power grid access 14 states, mandated this project as a regional effort to enhance grid reliability in Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri.
The improvements:
- Enhance eletric service reliability and resiliency.
- Reduce the frequency and duration of power outages.
- Improve ability to delivery power during extreme weather events.
- Optimize operations and lower the cost to deliver power across the region.
- Improve the transmission of low-cost energy to eastern areas of the SPP footprint, including northeast Oklahoma.
Project Updates
Early 2026: AEP representatives hosted in-person open house meetings February 2 - 5, 2026 in Ottawa, Craig, Nowata and Washington Counties. The purpose of these open house meetings was to provide the community an opportunity to view detailed maps, ask questions and share their thoughts about the proposed study segments with project representatives.
If you were unable to attend the in-person event, or would like additional information, you can view our virtual open house using the link located on the right.
We are accepting feedback for this project until Monday, February 23. Please share your thoughts by using the comment form at the bottom of this page, emailing or calling us.
