About the Project

Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) plans to build approximately 60 miles of new 765-kilovolt (kV) transmission line between Greentown Substation, located near the intersection of County Road 1100 East and State Road 22 in Howard County, and the Indiana-Ohio state line. Through its regional planning process, PJM Interconnection (PJM) identified the need for this project to maintain reliable electric service and support growing electricity demand. The Eastern Indiana Grid Reliability Project will strengthen the transmission grid and create additional transmission capacity that could support future economic development and energy investments in eastern Indiana.

Project Need

PJM, the regional transmission organization responsible for planning and coordinating the electric transmission grid in Indiana and surrounding states, identified the need for this project through its regional planning process.
