Victoria - Corichi Transmission Improvements Project

AEP Texas representatives plan to upgrade the electrical transmission system in Victoria, Wharton and Jackson counties.

The project involves:

  • Rebuilding, relocating, and upgrading the 138-kilovolt (kV) transmission line stretching from Victoria Substation to Corichi Tap Substation
  • Rebuilding approximately 44 miles of 138-kV transmission line.

Project benefits include:

  • Ensuring the reliability of electricity for area residents and businesses.
  • Replacing wooden H-frame structures from the 1960's with modern steel pole structures to meet engineering and safety standards.
  • Strengthening the system against severe weather impacts.

AEP Texas officials plan to apply for a Certificate of Convenience and Necessity (CCN) application with the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) following a review of public input on route link development and additional route analysis. Project representatives expect to file a CCN application by early 2027. The PUCT determines the final route.

Project Updates

September 2026: Open houses for the transmission line project were held in locations along the line where project team members discussed potential route links and answered questions from the public. Please visit the Virtual Open House to review materials from the open houses.
