Zoarville - AtwoodTransmission Line Improvements

AEP Ohio representatives plan to upgrade the electric transmission network serving customers in Tuscarawas and Carroll counties. The Zoarville-Atwood Transmission Line Improvements project involves:

Phase 1:

• Rebuilding approximately 8 miles of 69-kilovolt (kV) power line between Merrick Switch Substation, located at the intersection of Sub Station Road Northeast and Henderson School Road Northeast in New Philadelphia and Atwood Switch, located along Lodge Road Southwest in Sherrodsville.

Phase 2:

• Building 7 miles of 69-kV power line between Zoarville Substation, located along Tusk Valley Road Northeast in Zoarville and Merrick Switch.
• Retiring 6 miles of 69-kV power line between East Dover Substation, located along Northeast State Route 800 in Dover and Merrick Switch.
• Upgrading East Dover, Carrollton and Zoarville substations.

The project replaces aging wooden poles with modern steel poles to improve reliability and reduce maintenance. It also adds a second power source to provide backup service and strengthen the local grid.

Spring 2026: AEP Ohio representatives are re-engaging with landowners and continuing to evaluate route options. A final line route has not been determined.
