The Friendship - Portsmouth Transmission Line Project involves building about 8 miles of 69-kilovolt (kV) transmission line, rebuilding about 14 miles of 69-kV line and upgrading local substations. This project is located near Friendship, Portsmouth, and Rosemount. The project replaces an aging transmission line to improve electric reliability by decreasing the number of outages and shortening the duration if an outage should occur.
Early 2024: In response to the public feedback we've received concerning potential impacts to public parks, river views and private properties since announcing the Friendship-Portsmouth Transmission Line Project, the project team plans to re-evaluate the proposed electrical upgrades in the area. Company representatives plan to explore alternatives to improve reliability, which may include upgrading existing distribution and transmission lines, to reduce impacts to the community. We understand the importance of keeping you informed and plan to update you on next steps for the project as soon as we have more information and an updated schedule.
AEP Ohio will evaluate structure type based on terrain. New single pole structures about 75-feet tall and H-frame structures about 70-feet tall will be most common. Steel structures will be placed in the center of an approximate 60-foot wide right-of-way corridor.
*Exact structure types, height and right-of-way requirements may vary
