Kincaid AreaTransmission Line Project


Appalachian Power representatives plan to upgrade the electric transmission grid in Fayette County.

The Kincaid Area Transmission Line Project involves building approximately 15 miles of 69-kilovolt transmission line, building a new substation and upgrading several substations to strengthen the transmission grid.

Project Updates

February 2, 2024: Construction activities are currently ongoing. For more information about the construction activities and timeline, view the project Construction FAQ.

September 11, 2023: Crews plan to begin tree clearing and access road construction between Kincaid Substation and Whitewater Substation later this year. Crews plan to begin building the transmission line on this section in early 2024 and conclude by summer 2025. Some substation and transmission line rebuild construction will continue into spring 2026. 

May 9, 2022: Project representatives invite landowners to an in-person, informational open house on Monday, May 16 from 5-7 p.m. at The Lookout Point conference center at Adventures on the Gorge (219 Chestnutburg Road, Victor, WV 25938). There is no formal presentation, so landowners may come and go at any time during the two-hour event.

November 10, 2021: Company representatives determined a proposed power line route after reviewing input that landowners and community members provided during virtual town halls and a virtual open house this summer. The interactive map above shows the proposed line route. You can also see a PDF version of the map under the "Map" section below. Landowners along the line route can expect to hear in the coming months from the right-of-way contractor representing Appalachian Power.
