Tatum AreaTransmission Improvements Project

Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO) representatives plan to upgrade the electric transmission system in the Tatum area. Crews plan to begin construction in spring 2023 and conclude in late 2024.

This project involves rebuilding approximately 7 miles of 138-kilovolt power line, replacing 3 additional miles of wire on existing poles and making minor upgrades to substation equipment.

Project Updates

Early 2024: SWEPCO representatives plan to start construction on the final section of this project in early 2024 and conclude in late 2024. This involves rebuilding approximately 13 miles between the Tatum and Rock Hill substations.

Fall 2023: SWEPCO representatives plan to resume construction on this project in early 2024 and conclude the final section of the project in late 2024.

Spring 2023: SWEPCO representatives plan to begin installing gates and culverts on select properties in late March to provide crews access to the construction area. Crews expect to begin transmission line construction in mid-April and conclude in spring 2024.

Early 2022-Spring 2022: SWEPCO crews and contractors plan to perform additional surveying work within the utility's right-of-way along and adjacent to the line route. As before, some of the survey work may require crews to place stakes and ribbon within the company's easement* on your property.

2021: SWEPCO crews and contractors plan to perform preliminary surveying work in summer 2021 within the utility's right-of-way along and adjacent to the line route. Some of the survey work may require crews to place stakes and ribbon within the company's easement* on your property. Crews plan to use existing streets and pathways wherever possible to access the easement area. SWEPCO takes responsibility should any damage result from the surveying work.

*Company representatives plan to rebuild the power line in the existing right-of-way, which may require acquiring new or updating existing property easements. Easements are defined land rights that property owners grant the utility to allow for the safe construction, operation and maintenance of the power line.
