The proposed Jackson Township 138 kV Transmission Line Project is part of the overall Jackson-Ross County Area Improvements Project. AEP Ohio plans to improve the reliability of the electric transmission system in Ross and Jackson counties. The Jackson Township 138 kV Transmission Line Project consists of upgrading about 10 miles of transmission line to 138 kV standards. The new transmission line will be built adjacent to the existing transmission line, which will be removed once construction is complete. AEP Ohio may supplement current easements to accommodate the need to expand the existing right-of-way. The projected costs of the upgrades are approximately $21 million, an investment that will enhance reliability in the area and reduce the possibility of extended power outages.
The existing transmission line has reached an age where it needs to be replaced. Replacing aging equipment with modern structures and wires provides the region with a more reliable power source.
FEBRUARY 2019: The OPSB granted a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility and Public Need to construct this project in February. The transmission right-of-way group is currently working to acquire the necessary land and easements for construction.
FALL 2018: A local public hearing for the proposed Vigo-Pine Ridge Switch (Jackson Township) 138 kV Transmission Line Project will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2018, at 6:00 p.m., at the Northview Elementary School Gymnasium, located at 11507 Chillicothe Pike, Jackson, Ohio 45640. At this local public hearing, the public will be given an opportunity to comment on this project to the Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB). AEP Ohio and its affiliate, AEP Ohio Transmission Company Inc., invite all residents and property owners who wish to present written or oral testimony to attend this public hearing. The OPSB will consider comments from the public and the OPSB Staff Report when evaluating the application.
An evidentiary hearing will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. in Hearing Room 11-D, at the office of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, 180 East Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215. This hearing is open to the public, but participation is limited to the parties in the case.
Proposed structures will vary depending on location. The project will use several structure types, including steel H-frame and monopoles that will be about 100-feet tall. The structures will be placed in an approximate 100-foot wide right-of-way corridor.
*Exact structure, height and right-of-way may vary
