Muskie Transmission Improvements Project

Kentucky Power is planning to upgrade the power grid and support economic development opportunities in eastern Kentucky by making significant upgrades to the electric transmission system in Boyd County.

The project involves building:

  • The 765-kilovolt(kV) Venator Substation
  • Two 765-kilovolt (kV) transmission lines totaling approximately 2.5 miles to connect the proposed substation to an existing line
  • Two 345-kV transmission lines, approximately 3 miles long, parallel to each other, totaling 6 miles

TeraWulf needs a reliable power source for its planned data center campus in EastPark Industrial Park. The new transmission lines and substation will provide the electrical infrastructure needed to serve the facility and support continued economic development opportunities in the region.

The project is located in western Boyd County. The two proposed 765-kV transmission lines will connect the new substation to the existing 765-kV transmission line. The two 345-kV transmission lines will extend from the new substation to TeraWulf's facility in the industrial park.

Kentucky Power will determine the final routes for the new transmission lines after receiving public input on the proposed study segments and completing additional route analysis.
