Western MarionArea Improvements
Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) plans to strengthen the electric transmission system in Grant County, Northeastern Indiana.
Western Marion Area Improvements Project includes:
- Rebuilding about 6 miles of 34 kV to 69 kV transmission line
- Upgrading area substations including, West End, Marion Plant, Miller Avenue, Grant, South Side and Deer Creek Substations.
These improvements increase reliability, reduce power outages and speed recovery of service when outages occur.
Project Updates
Fall 2025: Crews started construction summer 2025 and plan to complete removals late 2025. Restoration efforts will follow, with plans to complete in spring 2026.
A public Open House was held December 2019 to gather input from local residents. I&M representatives announced the final proposed line route for the project in summer 2020.

Structures
I&M plans on using steel monopole structures averaging 75-feet in height. Structures will be placed within a 60-foot right-of-way.
Portions of the line will be built in or adjacent to the existing right-of-way, other areas will require construction in new areas and with new easements.
