Indiana Michigan Power representatives plan to improve electric service reliability for customers in Mishawaka through the Southern Mishawaka Area Improvements Project. The project includes:
Company representatives plan to relocate the power line within a 40 to 60-foot right-of-way corridor and plan to acquire new property easements to ensure safe construction, operation and maintenance of the line.
The project team identified several possible routes for the relocation, known as study segments. Study segments provide options to determine the best path for the power line. Company representatives do not build all these options but choose one route based on public feedback and feasibility.
The project strengthens the electric transmission system by replacing aging substation equipment and power lines with modern equipment and structures. These upgrades enhance safety standards, improve the operational efficiency of the lines and reduce the chances of needing repairs.
Thank you to everyone who attended the Southern Mishawaka Area Improvements Project Open House on May 14, 2025. Your participation and feedback are crucial as we explore options for relocating and rebuilding the power line.
For those who were unable to attend in person, we invite you to participate in our virtual open house. We encourage you to continue sharing your comments and thoughts. You can submit your feedback in person, by mail, or online until June 16.
Thank you for your support with this important project!
The project involves installing wood poles, with steel poles used in areas needing extra reinforcement.
Typical Structure Height: Approximately 75 feet*
Typical Right-of-Way Width: Approximately 40-60
feet**
* Exact structure, height and right-of-way may vary.
** Planned primarily
within the existing road right-of-way.
Photo simulations are visual representations showing how proposed changes may look in a real-world environment. These simulations help viewers understand the potential impact of the project on the landscape and surrounding areas. By providing a visual comparison of the existing conditions and the anticipated improvements, stakeholders can better assess the project's design and its integration into the community.
