Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) representatives plan power grid upgrades in eastern Indiana. The Greentown-Sorenson Transmission Improvements Project involves building approximately 50 miles of new 765-kilovolt (kV) transmission line from the Greentown Substation, near Route 35 by the town of Greentown, to the Sorenson Substation, near North Gundy Road in Jackson.
Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), the regional transmission operator who oversees and monitors the power grid across 15 states, mandated this project as part of its long-range plan. The plan focuses on building a 765-kV backbone in the Midwest to carry electricity longer distances, strengthening the power grid and improving electric service for customers.
Your community benefits from the project through tax revenues generated from construction, job creation, and an increase in future electric capacity. Additional electric capacity creates an opportunity for growth and community development in eastern Indiana.
Thank you to all who attended the open houses in September. The comment period has closed for the Greentown-Sorenson Transmission Improvements Project.
The project team has documented each submission in the project’s comment record. Team members are now reviewing the information and have shared it with the appropriate routing, engineering, environmental, real estate, or right-of-way specialists. This process helps the team identify property conditions and planned uses that may not appear on existing maps or in public data.
The project team considers landowner-provided information with engineering requirements, environmental data, field studies, community input, cost, constructability, and other routing factors. No single comment or property feature determines the route, and submitting information does not guarantee a specific outcome. However, detailed property information helps the team develop a more complete understanding of local conditions as it evaluates potential routes.
If additional information would help us understand a property-specific concern, a project representative may contact you for clarification. Some questions may not have an immediate answer while studies and route evaluations are underway.
Submitting information does not guarantee a specific routing outcome. However, your input helps the team understand local conditions, property uses and concerns that may not appear in existing data. We consider this information alongside engineering, environmental, community, constructability and cost factors as we evaluate potential routes.
We will share project updates as the process advances and notify affected landowners when a proposed route has been identified later this year.
