Appalachian Power plans to address local electric reliability concerns by building a substation in the community of Walton. The new Walton Substation is part of the Clendenin – Walton Area Improvements Project, a Transource Project.
Construction of the substation will start summer 2018 and last about a year.
7/25/18 -- Construction of the new substation is expected to start next month.
Transource and Appalachian Power held an open house at the end of 2016 to introduce the project to the community. Construction of the substation will begin summer 2018 and last about a year.
Substations serve as electrical intersections converting the power to lower voltages so it can be distributed onto distribution lines that deliver electricity to where we live and work. Substations step down the voltage to levels for use in industrial facilities, businesses and homes.
