Appalachian Power plans to make upgrades to the transmission system to increase electric reliability to customers in Fayette and Kanawha counties in West Virginia.
The Carbondale Area Improvements Project consists of rebuilding approximately 16 miles of transmission line and making associated upgrades to additional transmission facilities in the project area.
Construction is currently underway and is projected to be complete by the end of 2020.
07/26/2019 - Construction is still on track and projected to be complete by the end of 2020.
10/15/2018 - Crews have begun clearing trees and building access roads in areas where easements have been acquired. Construction of the transmission line and upgrades to existing substations are also underway.
03/29/2018 - Appalachian Power has determined a proposed line route for the Carbondale Area Improvements Project. Appalachian Power right-of-way representatives O.R. Colan will start the process of reaching out to directly involved landowners to discuss upcoming activities.
01/31/2018 - Appalachian Power held an open house at Baisi Athletic Center at the Montgomery YMCA to introduce study segments, answer questions related to the project and gather feedback from the community.
