AEP Ohio is improving the electric transmission system in Brown County. The Sardinia Area Improvements involves building about 5 miles of new 138-kilovolt (kV) transmission line, upgrading a substation and retiring about 12 miles of 69 kV transmission line.
Adding the new transmission line and upgrading the substation provides an additional power source to the electric transmission grid and updates aging infrastructure to provide reliable electricity to area customers.
The line will likely run through Eagle Township in Brown County, east of Sardinia. AEP Ohio anticipates building the new transmission line primarily with steel single pole structures that will be approximately 110-feet tall.
The projected costs of the upgrades are approximately $19 million.
February 2019: The OPSB granted a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility and Public Need to construct this project in February. The transmission right-of-way group is currently working to acquire the necessary land and easements for construction.
Spring 2018: AEP Ohio Transco filed an application with the Ohio Power Siting Board requesting permission to construct this project.
A local public hearing for the proposed Sardinia Area Improvements will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2018, at 6 p.m., at the Brown County Public Library - Sardinia Branch, Community Room, located at 13309 Purdy Road, Sardinia, Ohio 45171. The OPSB will consider comments from the public and the OPSB Staff Report when evaluating the application.
