Construction for the project near the St. Joseph Pathway trail will resume July 24 until mid-August. For visitor safety, flaggers will direct visitors around the construction accordingly.
Why is this project being done?
Powering Up Central: City of Fort Wayne is one of five improvement projects to reinforce the electric transmission system in northeast Indiana. The existing infrastructure has reached an age where it needs to be upgraded. Increasing the voltage from 34.5 kilovolts (kV) to 138 kV ensures the system can meet the region’s growing demands for electricity.
How long will the process take?
Construction throughout the project will occur in phases with total line construction anticipated to be completed in summer 2017. Foundation construction along Spy Run Avenue Extended, which will impact the Rivergreenway is anticipated to be completed in mid-to-late January.
What type of safety precautions will be taken for visitors?
Construction crews will install safety barriers and signage in areas where construction is on-going. Visitors will need to follow the approved route detour.
