Powering Up East: Monroeville Area

    Powering Up Shreveport – Bossier City

    The employees of Indiana Michigan Power Company (I&M) are committed to providing the electricity that customers need. To that end, the company plans to upgrade the aging electric backbone of the region with a $500 million reliability transmission program called “Powering Up Northeast Indiana.” One of the program’s five major electric transmission improvement projects is Powering Up East: Monroeville Area.

    Indiana Michigan Power Company (I&M) is planning several improvements to the local electric transmission system to ensure continued reliable power delivery to Northeast Indiana and the greater Fort Wayne area. Powering Up East improvements are centered on the Monroeville area and Allen County.

    Key Components Include:

    • Upgrading the Allen Substation
    • Building two new approximately 4-mile 138-kV transmission lines
    • Rebuilding 18 miles of existing transmission line -- 7 miles in Indiana and 11 miles in Ohio
    • Removing line to restructure the network

    Project Updates

    Fall 2017: The project remains on schedule and is currently under construction.
