New Carlisle-South Bend Transmission Line Rebuild

Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) will upgrade the 34.5-kilovolt (kV) transmission line to 69 kV between New Carlisle and South Bend. The transmission line will tap into the new Tulip Road Substation. The improvements in St. Joseph County are essential to ensure continued reliable electric is available for customers. The existing transmission infrastructure has reached an age where it is in need of rebuild and redesign to improve reliability for customers across the region.

Proactively rebuilding approximately 8 miles of transmission line will decrease outages and speed recovery of service when outages occur. Aging wood poles will be replaced with steel monopoles and new conductor to allow for future growth in the area.
